Keep Our Hearts In Tune

Daniel 10 is a really interesting read. You can’t help but be mesmerized by the scene depicted, where Daniel has a life-altering encounter with an unnamed heavenly being in the midst of a grueling fast that lasted at least 3 weeks. He couldn’t have known that on the first day he lay his plate down, that waiting at the other end of his sacrifice was a supernatural experience that would leave Him completely undone. What caught my eye though were these words: “And he said to me, “You must not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I myself have come because of your words.” Verse 12 LEB.

“You must not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I myself have come because of your words.”

Daniel 10:12 LEB

I’ve heard many debate whether this was an angel, or Jesus Himself. Others are more taken with the fact that from the minute Daniel started his fast, there was an activation in the spiritual realm that released help to his aid, and this is certainly encouraging to be aware of. However, what presently catches my eye is the phrase ‘set my heart to understand’. It leads me to envision our hearts as radios, with certain channels or stations from which we may choose in order to ensure a response from heaven. Daniel set his to channels of pursuit and humility, and besides gaining insight into the future, discovered how sincerely he was loved by God. Lord help us to set our hearts to the right frequencies – ones that will activate kingdom response, reveal messages from the heart of God and allow us to hear the sound of heaven here on earth. Help us always to keep our hearts in tune.
